SXSW vote!

Published by phoebe under interwebs, teh, wik-eh-pedia

Friday was the original deadline for voting on SXSW proposals, but voting has been extended through today. May I direct your attention to two proposals:
* “Too Small, Too Open: Correcting Wikipedia’s Local Failure” — a panel that if accepted I will be on! It’s about the LocalWiki project and how we can build many community [...]

editing Fridays

Published by phoebe under wik-eh-pedia

Today I was talking with Eugene, a Wikimedian friend of mine. He was telling me about all the Wikipedians he talked to who don’t edit anymore, or who spend their time working on institutional things like outreach instead of editing.

Wikimedia’s strategy, and the future

This is the last week for the formal strategic planning process for the Wikimedia Foundation. There are three newish summary pages worth noting:

An overview of movement priorities, which the project asks for help editing and refining
A call for action, or continued involvement in the process
And a page about the role of the Wikimedia Foundation in [...]

support LocalWiki today

Philip Neustrom and Mike Ivanov created the DavisWiki back in 2004, as UCD students — and it is now one of the most vibrant city wikis in the world, with amazing local participation. In their words:
On a given day, about 1 in 6 residents visits the site. Over the course of one week, nearly half [...]
