this spark of ours
The husband of a good friend of mine died yesterday. He was 33 and had been diagnosed with a particularly virulent cancer for the last 3 of those years; it surprised his doctors — but not his friends — that he lived as long as he did.
Scott was a gamer, a hacker, an engineer, a husband and generally an all-round awesome person. Those of you who are Wikimedians may know his wife Betsy, who is herself amazing, steadfast in tribulation.
This night was not gently gone into, but courageously; as another friend posted on their long-running blog, “Scott was made of win, pwnage and awesome for fighting as long and hard as he did. GG, Scott. GG.”
If this story tells us anything except yes, this is life, and we are human, then it is to live as well as you can now, to live with intention and courage and love; for would that any of us could face this lot so well, when it falls to us to carry.
