Today was a lovely day, so this morning I made myself a totally decadent serendipitous treat to match. There’s a lot of recipes for this on the web but I made this up on the spot.
amaretto french toast
- stale french bread
- little splash of milk; bigger splash of whipping cream
- two eggs
- shot of amaretto
Combine everything; soak for as long as you can stand (about half an hour for me, but it’d be better with a couple hours); fry up in butter. Serve with super-ripe strawberries sliced up with sugar & a little more amaretto added. Die, happy and at peace with the world, of a heart attack.
Everything local & organic, except for the amaretto, which comes from a wonderful place in the sky called heaven. It’s strawberry season in California — the farm stands down the road are going full steam — and I’ve eaten about a half-flat this week. Nom.
