Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the founding of Wikipedia on January 15, 2001.

There were celebrations all over the world — 290 of them on January 15.

We had a conference and party in San Francisco, too:

Complete with cake:

(Incidentally, this image does not give the full scale of the size of the cake — it was nearly 4 feet across. It was meant for 250 – still, there were a lot of leftovers.)

Thank you to everyone who helped with and participated in both San Francisco events — they were awesome.

And as I said last night, if you are someone who helps make the projects happen — an editor, a contributor, a developer, a donor; whether you’re a staff member or a volunteer or an evangelist — thank you. These events were a celebration of ten years of our community, and I am proud to be a part of it.

A technical note: please use thumbnails for the images; as it is now, this post requires one to download nearly 15 MB (!) just for 3 small pictures.
