limited time

Published by at 8:00 am under Uncategorized

I am only awake 17 to 18 hours a day, usually. This gives a limited amount of time to think about things. Since I more or less earn my living by thinking about things, how I spend my brainpower (which is not so very great to begin with) is important. You would think that my thoughts would be proportionately on track with my daily activities, so I’d spend 10 hours a day thinking about work, 1 hour a day thinking about food, 1 hour thinking about writing, etc, but noooo. Here’s how it actually breaks down, I think:

45%: things read on Internets
20%: worrying about job
10%: worrying about writing project(s) and conferences
5%: worrying about food, and/or current fatness
5%: worrying about state of email inbox
4%: worrying about bills, financial status, car status, doctor’s appointments, cleanliness of house, supplies, things that need fixing, etc.
4%: daydreaming about boys
2%: worrying about what I’m going to wear tomorrow
2%: thinking about friends & family, or conversations with same
1%: new skills department: learning chinese, programming, bookbinding, or whatever it is I’m on about this week
1%: worrying about next upcoming trip and/or presentation
.3%: planning next blog post
.3%: feeling sorry for myself
.3%: whatever I’m reading at the moment
.1%: just enjoying life

heh. Oh, brain, when will you ever learn to prioritize?

Clearly, the solution is to nuke Teh Internets.

(I spend far too much time on them when I should be lesson planning. Or going through the pile of obscure music scores on that cart over there…)
